I Believe

Based on your current understanding of technology, how do you believe it can be used in teaching the reading process? Or, do you not believe it has a role in teaching the reading process? Please explain your thoughts.

I believe technology plays an important role in teaching not only reading but many other subjects as well. For instance, it can make learning mathematical skills fun. I have used in the past a program called Waterford to teach reading to first grade LEP students. This program was pretty successful since the students did enjoy using it, in addition, it seemed to have helped them in learning language/reading. Students showed growth after a few months of using the program.

Technology is extremely important in teaching reading. Websites with music, visuals, and animation are able to draw in the attention of the children. Once their attention is captured, they are able to learn a myriad of different content areas, particularly reading. For instance, Reading Plus is a program in which the lines of a passage appear line by line. This allows the children to track much better than they would if they were simply reading a sheet of paper. Another program is Learning Today which is for LEP students. This program has colorful graphics and animations which enable them to learn and have fun at the same time!

Regarding the Reading Process,,,,technology is a wonderful tool; specicially what I learned today on how to utilize the "create A Book" tool with the power point. I extremely enjoyed the Microsoft Reader program that I will be able to apply in the classroom. WOW, highlight, reading aloud, there is so many options to use with this program.

I do believe that technology plays a major role in teaching reading. There is no classroom in the world that can open as much information for our students as the internet.

I believe in technology. It is entertaining and motivational. It makes learning fun. Students show much enthusiasm when having to use the computer. Students achieve higher standards when technology is intergrated in the daily lessons.

Because this age of technology is very much a part of this generation, our students enjoy the variety of activities that computer programs offer. Technology can enhance the learning of reading and help extend concepts using graphs, animation, etc. What we can do is limitless in terms of reading and writing including the creation of books to apply writing and reading skills

I don't just believe, I know, that computer technology is helping teachers to teach reading. Individual identification of shortcomings is facilitated by the different computer programs like Star Early Literacy, Accellerated Reader, Star Reader, Math Reader, Leap Frog,Reading Plus, etc.

However, students also continue to need the "human touch". I do not agree that one day all learning can and should take place in a soley computer environment. We must remember Gardner and his identification of multiple intelligences.

Technology offers so much to assist students to attain reading mastery. At the very least it provides multiple and varied non- threatening opportunities to practice and apply skills.Diagnostic-prescriptive information can be accessed for individual readers and groups. Favorite authors, topics and genres can be explored easliy.Technology offers a wonderful resource, though it cannot replace the sensitive insight of the teacher.

Realistically speaking, technology is an essential part of today's society, so everyone should be computer literate to be able to function in today's world. However, we do not always have the tools nor the time to incorporate it into our lessons. We always hear about how great technology is and we visit and evaluate all the different websites and programs there are available, but really.........what time do we have to actually use it with our students in our our daily lessons?

I believe technology plays an important role in reading. Children now a days enjoy using the computer to play games and to communicate with their friends. Since they enjoy computers so much we should incorporate reading in the role of technology.

Technology is a great source of information. I am amazed at some of the sites that you can find and how much info is out. Technology motivates our students to find out more and encourages them to continue.
